Our weekly social skills groups are offered to school-aged children, adolescents, and adults of varying levels of social functioning. The goal of these groups is to build social skills not only in terms of developing friendships, but also from a cooperative and collaborative-based perspective. This multi-pronged approach will target skills that are necessary in many environments and situations, including school, leisure, home, and workplace environments.
When building skills both at home and in the community, we believe it is very important to work together with caregivers and family members to develop a plan of action and to apply the strategies that will lead to future success. That is why we offer parent training and consultation sessions to discuss, plan, and implement these strategies.
Our monthly social clubs are for those who are interested in building bonds with others through various activities and in different environments.
Our location within The Chocolate Spectrum allows us the unique ability to practice these skills within a dedicated business setting. Domains that are targeted, such as interview skills, appropriate workplace conduct, and customer service, are paramount to the success of an individual in a job or internship setting.
Our community skills trainings involve teaching the basics in a structured setting, followed by an application of this knowledge in the designated setting. Some examples of skills that are addressed include using public transportation, eating at a restaurant, and shopping at the grocery store.
Having a sibling with special needs can present its own set of challenges that oftentimes may not be able to be addressed naturally. That is why we offer sibling groups for like-minded individuals to connect with each other. We aim to provide an outlet for these siblings that may otherwise find it difficult to cope with the situations that arise in their lives.
